[1]In December 1957, the Rome provincial administration organized a competition with a call for three monographs on the history, art and economy of the province, "with the intention of promoting the interest of researchers on the major aspects of the cultural and economic life of the territory of the Province of Rome.”
The winner in the historical area was the young professor Alberto Caracciolo, an important figure in Italian historiography, with La storia della Provincia di Roma: dall’Editto 5 luglio 1831 ai nostri giorni.
The Provincial Library, which has the unpublished typescript in its collections, published it on occasion of the 135th anniversary of the Province of Rome, convinced that this is still a useful contribution to the knowledge of local history and the institutions of our province.
